The Gaming and Entertainment Experience Convention (GEX Con) is a 24 hour, two day experience. Doors open Saturday at 10 am and don’t close until Sunday at 8pm – how freaking cool is that? Here, gamers get to basically enter Heaven, where they can play non stop if they want, while also communing with fellow game nerds and learning about the latest and greatest in gaming tech and releases.
The convention not only has special guests, such as popular game developers or voice actors, but also has competitions for popular games like Call of Duty and Diablo. The really exciting thing about this year’s GEX Con is that they purchased Oculus Rift, and they’re letting people try it out for the price of admission! Say what! For those of you out there who don’t understand or know what Oculus Rift is, it’s essentially the leading name in Virtual Reality technology, and it’s so expensive that the average user can’t quite afford it (yet).
At ticket prices that start at just $45 for the two days, this makes the GEX Con 2016 a great value. But you better book your tickets today! In the past, tickets have sold out quickly, so make sure you’re not stuck without a ticket like a loser!
Another awesome feature for this year’s GEX Con is the Arcade Area, where old school arcade games, including consoles, pinball machines, and stand-up games will all be available. As part of the All Nighter program, you’ll have 24 access to these beauties, but expect a line! If you’re interested in pitching panel ideas, now is the time to do it! With the panel application process still in the works, you can pitch panel ideas like “Why World of Warcraft has Changed My Life!” or “I’m not Addicted, I’m Happy!” … whatever floats your boat.
For a number of gamers attending, this is a time to show of your cosplay skills. GEX Con has some of the most cutthroat cosplay competitions, and there are a ton of rules on what you can and cannot do, wear, or bring so make sure you brush up on those before rolling up. Also keep in mind that this is a great opportunity for budding game developers to connect with some of the biggest brands in the industry, so if you’re hoping to snag a job, make sure you’re wearing something other than your Princess Leia slave costume.
This year’s convention will be held in Fredericksburg, VA at the Fredericksburg Event Center and tickets are going fast. You can see in person all of your gaming idols, including LauraLania, Jeremy “Gaming Curious,” and ProtatoMonster. Take the time to book your tickets, hotel, and flight now, and get ready for the convention July 23 and 24th. If you’re a true gamer, you won’t want to miss out on this!
